Just slice and toss—this is such an easy dish!

It’s one of the most popular recipes in my family.

Whenever I make this, my daughter eats an entire two servings by herself—it’s truly addictive!

Since it’s quick and simple, it’s perfect as a last-minute side dish. Try it for a snack or as an izakaya-style appetizer you won’t be able to stop eating.

When scaling the recipe, the ratios of some ingredients may require slight adjustments. Adjust as necessary and season to taste.

  • 2 Japanese cucumbers
  • 2.5 oz. can tuna in oil
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • A
    1/2 tsp. vinegar
  • A
    1/2 tsp. chicken bouillon powder
  • A
    1/4 tsp. sugar
  • A
    1/4 tsp. soy sauce
  • B
    1/2 tsp. grated garlic (from a tube)

    1 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds
  • B
    1 tbsp. sesame oil

INSTRUCTIONS

    Slice the cucumbers diagonally into thin rounds and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp. salt, mix well, and let sit for about 5 minutes. Wrap in paper towels and squeeze out the excess moisture thoroughly.

    Add A ingredients (vinegar, chicken bouillon powder, sugar, and soy sauce) to the cucumbers and massage lightly.

    Add the tuna with its oil, plus B ingredients (garlic, sesame seeds, and sesame oil), and mix well.

Tips & Notes

・Be sure to thoroughly squeeze out all of the extra moisture from the cucumbers before adding the seasonings.
・Adjust the amount of garlic to taste.
・Add the canned tuna together with its oil for maximum flavor.
