When scaling the recipe, the ratios of some ingredients may require slight adjustments. Adjust as necessary and season to taste.

  • 8 thin pork belly slices
  • 4 Japanese piman peppers (or substitute with 1 green bell pepper)
  • 8 tbsp. shredded mozzarella or pizza cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • All-purpose flour, as needed
  • Vegetable oil, as needed
  • 3 tbsp. Yakiniku sauce (Japanese BBQ sauce, medium-spicy)

INSTRUCTIONS

    If using piman peppers: Slice each piman pepper in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and white membranes. Fill each half with shredded cheese, then wrap tightly with a slice of pork belly.
    If substituting with green bell peppers: Remove the seeds from the bell pepper and slice into eighths. Carefully layer shredded cheese on each slice and wrap tightly with a slice of pork belly.

    Lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper, then coat evenly with flour.

    Lightly oil a frying pan and place the rolls seam-side down. Heat over medium and cook for 7–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the pork is browned and cooked through.

    Pour in the yakiniku sauce and toss until the rolls are evenly coated and glossy.
