Updated on

This dish recreates the flavor of "Negima"—a popular Yakitori skewer of chicken and Japanese long onions in a skillet—no skewers required! Juicy chicken thighs and tender-sweet long green onions are seared and coated in a thick, sweet-and-savory sauce reminiscent of Yakitori glaze. It tastes like something straight from a Japanese food stall or izakaya!

The glossy sauce clings to every piece, delivering richness and umami in every bite. It’s a surefire favorite among kids and adults alike, perfect with steamed rice or as a side for drinks. This is an addictive dish you’ll want to make again and again—bringing the feel of a yakitori shop right into your home.

Tips & Notes

Be sure to remove any excess oil or liquid from the pan before adding the sauce—this helps the glaze thicken properly.
The most authentic flavor will be achieved with a Japanese long green onion (naganegi), but scallions or leeks can be substituted.
